Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Lake Superior State University's University Housing Office is seeking individuals to join our team and play a vital role in supporting our operations. As a team member, you will be responsible for providing accurate information to students, parents, and staff, assisting University Housing residents with their needs, and completing other assigned clerical duties. The Housing Office is staffed by experienced professionals from 8am to 5pm during the academic year and 8am to 4:30pm during the summer. Our dedicated student staff is available outside of these hours.

Reporting directly to the Housing Office's Special Clerk III, this position provides a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a professional and supportive work environment. Join our team and make a meaningful contribution to the Lake Superior State University community.

Duties include
Performing basic filing, data entry, mail processing, and word processing duties
Providing information to current and prospective students about Lake Superior State University and University Housing policies and procedures via phone, emails and walk-ins
Maintaining high levels of customer service
Using a computer program/database to help residents and provide information
Performing other related duties as assigned by full-time University Housing staff.

Required for Position
Excellent phone and customer service skills, including the ability to respond to angry or emotional customers
Organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
Ability to respond to multiple requests in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work efficiently and positively in a high-stress work environment
Basic computer skills including using Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Ability to work independently as needed
Strong verbal and written English skills
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Current registration as a Lake Superior State University student, in good academic standing

Physical Demands:

The work schedule for this position typically ranges between 4 and 19 hours per week during most weeks of the academic year, based on availability. As a student employee, your education is our top priority, and you will not be scheduled to work during your class times.

To be eligible for this position, employees must be registered for a minimum of 6 undergraduate credits, excluding the summer term. We value work-life balance and aim to provide flexible scheduling options to accommodate your academic commitments.

General office hours for student staff are as follows:
Academic Year
Monday – Thursday 9am – 7pm
Friday 9am – 5pm
Saturday 10am – 2pm
Sunday – Closed
