Job Summary/Basic Function:
CFRE is seeking applicants for ~12 summer positions to support ongoing research activity. Projects include the following:
Great Lakes Coastal Wetland monitoring
Lake sturgeon research
Didymo (invasive algae) research
St. Marys River water level changes
Fish habitat research in the Straits of Mackinac
Little Rapids restoration evaluation
Oil spill research--biology and chemistry
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should have a driver’s license and good driving record, positive attitude, interest in gaining experience in freshwater science, and willingness to work long, and sometimes unpredictable hours as needed. Prior to beginning, all students will be expected to complete a Boater's Safety training, which is available on-line if you have not done so already. Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume to be considered.
Physical Demands: Applicants for research projects should be comfortable in and around water, tolerant of biting insects and harsh weather. Applicants should be able to lift at least 30 lbs and work on their feet outside for long hours.
Special Instructions to Applicants:
Students who are working on or are interested in working on a senior research project connected to the above projects will receive hiring priority. Federal Work study students are encouraged to apply as well.
