Job Summary/Basic Function:

Your job as a Student Assistant will be one of acting as the face of the Counseling Services and making sure all students get the most that Counseling Services has to offer students. Communicate with students regarding scheduling, department information, and services that Counseling Services provides to LSSU students. Assist professional staff with general administrative duties. Manage and maintain sensitive student information in physical and online files. Oversee and manage displays and bulletin boards across campus. Interact with students through phone and email addressing their questions and concerns. Welcome new students and assist them with their mental health needs in a manner that is welcoming and professional. You will report directly to the Counseling Services Staff.
Duties will include:
Up to 19 hrs/week)
Making sure all visitors are welcomed warmly
Engaging students who come in, “checking” students into their appointments, and taking information for scheduling of new clients
Keeping Counseling Services tidy
Restocking the department brochures, pamphlets, and information in the office
Promoting Counseling Services
Keeping students informed of what we offer
Preparation and attendance at campus events
Various duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Student Assistant hire must be an actively enrolled student on campus and maintain an exceptional grade point average (minimum 3.0) Ability to multitask and prioritize objectives to meet deadlines. Exceptional spoken and written communication skills in English are required.
Ability to proactively determine the needs of new and existing student clients and to manage them efficiently. Experience working with and organizing personal and sensitive information, confidentiality is a must. Intermediate or advanced proficiency using Google and Microsoft suite. Work experience using database and data entry software. Extensive understanding of University standards and procedures are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Student who is in a program that is a mental health or health field related degree.
Students with Federal Work Study or Michigan Work Study.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push a cart up to 75 pounds

Work Hours: 

M-F, 8am - 5pm
