Job Summary/Basic Function:
The volleyball clock operator is a person responsible for accurately managing the timing and scoring of a volleyball match, often working in conjunction with the official scorekeeper.
Responsibilities:
Timing Intervals: The clock operator is tasked with timing specific intervals during the match, such as:
Charged time-outs: Beginning with the official's signal, and sounding an audio signal at the end of the specified timeout length (e.g., 45 seconds or 60 seconds).
Injury time-outs: Beginning with the official's signal, and sounding an audio signal after the designated time (e.g., 30 seconds), unless play has resumed or the official indicates otherwise.
Intervals between games (sets): Starting the clock when the referee signals teams to return to their benches, and sounding an audio signal at the appropriate intervals before the next set begins.
Scoreboard Operation: Displaying the progress of the game on the scoreboard, in addition to timing duties.
Communication: Working closely with the referees and scorekeeper to ensure accurate information is relayed about the game's progress.
Equipment Management: Basic understanding of using the scoreboard and timing equipment.
Accuracy: Maintaining composure in high-pressure situations to ensure accurate scorekeeping and timekeeping.
