JOB DUTIES: Responsible for operating the College of Engineering & Mines’s multidisciplinary materials characterization laboratory. Specific duties include: (1) operating, maintaining, and supervising the materials characterization laboratory research, including analysis using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, total organic carbon analyzer, ion chromatograph, x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), atomic force microscopy (AFM), nanoindenter, core nuclear magnetic resonance (core-NMR), and thermogravimetric (TGA); (2) training and supervising laboratory researchers, including assisting in teaching courses; (3) performing  analytical protocols and quality assurance and quality control procedures; (4) providing technical support to College of Engineering & Mines researchers in writing high-quality grant proposals; and (5) assisting the laboratory manager and College of Engineering & Mines financial staff in laboratory management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field; 6 months of laboratory experience, including specific hands-on experience in materials development, and specific experience using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF), Raman Imaging Microscope (RM), Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), Ion Chromatography (IC), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), and Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC).
