Purpose of Position
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Public Address (PA) Announcer for a track and field sporting event is responsible for delivering clear, engaging, and accurate announcements to inform and entertain spectators, athletes, and event staff. The role requires strong communication skills, knowledge of track and field events, and the ability to maintain a professional and energetic presence throughout the event.
- Event Announcements: Provide real-time updates on race starts, results, athlete introductions, and event schedules with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Athlete and Team Information: Announce athlete names, affiliations, and relevant achievements accurately, ensuring proper pronunciation.
- Crowd Engagement: Energize the audience with commentary, event highlights, and encouragement to enhance the spectator experience.
- Coordination with Officials: Work closely with event organizers, timers, and officials to ensure accurate and timely delivery of results and other critical information.
- Safety and Emergency Announcements: Communicate safety protocols, emergency procedures, or weather-related updates as directed by event management.
- Scripted Content: Deliver sponsor messages, promotional announcements, and other scripted content in a professional manner.
- Event Flow Management: Maintain a smooth flow of announcements, adapting to schedule changes or unexpected delays while keeping the audience informed.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a press box or announcer’s booth.
- Comfort working in various weather conditions (outdoor events).
- Ability to project voice clearly in noisy or crowded environments

Minimum Requirements
- ● Experience: Prior experience in public speaking, broadcasting, or announcing, preferably in sports or live events.
● Knowledge: Strong understanding of track and field events, terminology, and rules to provide accurate and insightful commentary.
● Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication with a clear, confident voice and the ability to engage diverse audiences.
● Professionalism: Ability to remain calm under pressure, adapt to dynamic event conditions, and maintain a positive demeanor.
● Technical Skills: Familiarity with PA systems, microphones, and basic audio equipment; ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues is a plus.
● Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with event staff, officials, and other announcers.
● Language Skills: Proficiency in the primary language of the event; multilingual abilities are an asset for international or diverse audiences. - Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
