Purpose of Position
Provide confidential mental health and substance use services to support and assist students at the University of North Dakota, embedded into the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct Counseling Services
- Provide counseling services to University students
- Provide immediate support for students experiencing a crisis. This includes assessing risk, interventions, and ensuring students receive the necessary care and follow-up
- Facilitate groups as assigned
- Collaboratively create treatment plans with clients
- Uphold the ethical and legal obligation that licensure and profession require
- Engage in appropriate consultations for care
- Deliver workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
- Provide clinical supervision to counselors in training to ensure quality clinical client care including review of medical documentation, recordings, and fostering clinical skills and growth
- Other duties as assigned
- Non-Direct Clinical Service
- Maintains appropriate medical documentation that meets accreditation standard and professional standards
- Prepare reports, letters and other paperwork necessary to support counseling activities and comply with professional standards
- Assist in development workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
- Other duties as assigned
- Professional Activities, Development and Service
- Participate in UCC staff meetings to facilitate business operations and ensure high-quality services
- Engage in activities like self-directed study, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on the latest in counseling practices and mental health research relevant to UCC mission
- Maintain a license to practice in North Dakota
- Working with other campus services, faculty, and external partners to coordinate campus initiatives
- Dedicate time to ensure counseling practices are inclusive and culturally sensitive, including participate in training and development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

- Research, Education, and Training for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences
- Conduct and support research initiatives related to mental health within the medical education context.
- Develop and present educational materials and programs for medical students, faculty, and staff to promote wellness and resilience.
- Oversee specialized mental health services as required by the medical school (e.g., support for students preparing for licensing exams).
- Supervise, mentor, and train peer supporters and student leaders within the medical school.
- Serve on committees and task forces to advance student mental health and well-being.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- Master of Arts in Counseling or related field
- Must be licensed to practice therapy in ND, eligible for licensure in ND or eligible for licensure in related field
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a university counseling center or similar setting
- Experience working in medical communities
