Purpose of Position

The Research Assistant will support advanced project in biomaterials development for biomedical applications and gas membrane fabrication, hollow fiber fabrication separation processes. The role requires hands-on expertise in materials synthesis and polymeric and mixed-matrix membrane synthesis, and gas permeation testing. Candidates should be proficient in characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA, GC-MS, HPLC) and permeability measurements. The position is ideal for someone eager to contribute to innovative biomedical scaffolding and separation science research and support collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Biomaterials synthesis and development
  • Membrane Fabrication & Development: Assist in synthesizing polymeric, mixed-matrix, and nanomaterial-based gas separation membranes (flat sheet and hollow fiber).
  • Material Characterization: Prepare and analyze samples using SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GC-MS, and other relevant techniques to evaluate structural and chemical properties.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed lab records, prepare technical reports, and assist in drafting publications and presentations.
  • Research Innovation: Contribute to novel approaches such as nanomagnetism or machine-learning-assisted biomaterials and membrane design
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with senior researchers, faculty, and students; assist in training new lab members on experimental techniques and safety protocols.

Required Competencies

  • Hands-on experience in biomaterial scaffolding synthesis and development
  • Hands-on experience with membrane fabrication (polymeric, mixed-matrix, or nanomaterial-based).
  • Ability to lead experimental protocols with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in permeation testing and transport property evaluation.
  • Strong background in material characterization (SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GC-MS)

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, membrane Science, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of separation processes and gas transport phenomena.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and handling of chemical/analytical equipment.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
