Purpose of Position

The Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota (UND) is searching to fill a tenure-track faculty line in Psychology at the Assistant Professor rank and Director of the Indians into Psychology Doctoral Education (INPSYDE) program to begin in the Fall of 2026, contingent upon availability of funding. Candidates should have expertise in any area of Clinical Psychology, specifically, Indigenous Mental Health. We seek candidates who demonstrate potential for securing external funding and have experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary partners, specifically indigenous populations. The new hire will be uniquely qualified to provide valuable cultural guidance and leadership to any efforts by UND to enhance and expand its research partnerships with area tribes, as well as all indigenous research within the university.

The Department of Psychology is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota. It serves approximately 18 full-time faculty members, approximately 460 undergraduate majors, 300 minors, and 185 graduate students, with programs in Clinical (APA-accredited), Experimental, and Forensic Psychology.

A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program (complete by August 15, 2026), strong evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for establishing a funded research program, and evidence of teaching effectiveness are required. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with diverse groups is preferred. Promotion in this position will be tied to success in establishing and maintaining a strong, externally fundable research program, and excelling in teaching.

The University of North Dakota is supportive of dual-career assistance both within the University and the local community. Please contact UND’s Recruiting Manager, Hannah Whalen (Hannah.Whalen@UND.edu), to explore dual-career opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Produce peer-reviewed publications within the area of research expertise and seek external grant funds.

  • Teach a mix of online and on-campus courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and supervise graduate students (including clinical supervision of graduate students working in our training clinic).

  • Direct the Indians into Psychology Doctoral Education (INPSYDE) Program.

  • All faculty are expected to contribute service within the department, college, university, and community. UND and the College of Arts & Sciences value diverse perspectives and seek applicants who are committed to helping students from underrepresented backgrounds succeed.

A successful candidate's contract effort allocation would be 30% teaching, 40% research, 10% service, and 20% administration, which includes a course reduction in the first year of the position and then reverts to a 1/2 teaching load thereafter, given continued funding from Indian Health Services. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding promise for establishing a sustainable research program that will attract external funding and be aligned with the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.
