Purpose of Position

The temp research artist will support artistic translation of a qualitative study, that examines the health priorities, needs, perceived supports, and policy recommendations of Native LGBTQ+ and/or Two-Spirit individuals within the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin community. The goal is to better understand the experiences and perspectives of this community and to inform culturally relevant strategies and policies.

The Research Artist will play a key role in translating the study’s findings into an engaging and culturally grounded brief graphic novel format. The graphic novel will reflect the research findings, ensuring that Oneida culture and language are thoughtfully integrated throughout the narrative and artistry. In addition, the Research Temp will provide guidance and cultural insight related to the LGBTQ2S+ Oneida community to ensure authenticity and relevance in the project’s deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing artistic translations of the project background and findings
  • Producing a short graphic novel based on the study findings
  • Integrating Oneida culture in artistic designs
  • Incorporating feedback in the graphic novel
  • Regular communication with the supervisor and/or PI regarding the graphic novel milestones

Required Competencies

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, while meeting deadlines

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Comic Arts
  • Knowledge of Oneida culture and language
  • Experience and knowledge of LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit communities
  • Experience working with Digital Art Software (e.g., Procreate)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
