Salary/Position Classification

  • $18-$22, depending on experience, hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 10-20 hours per week

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

The Center for Process Engineering Research (CPER) is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our team as an Engineering Research Assistant to work at our pilot scale facility and research labs. This position is ideal for students who enjoy hands-on work, learning practical skills, and supporting real engineering research projects.

As an Engineering Research Assistant, you will support day-to-day operations in a pilot-scale engineering research environment. The role focuses on hands-on assistance, organization/housekeeping, and general research support, with opportunities to grow into more advanced technical work as skills develop.

This position is well-suited for students who prefer practical, physical work and want exposure to how engineering is done outside the classroom.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support for engineering research and experiments
  • Assist with lab housekeeping, organization, and maintaining a clean workspace
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and work areas for experiments
  • Support basic data collection and documentation
  • Follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe research environment 

Minimum Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering student
  • Able to work independently and remain task-driven
  • Willingness and comfort to work around chemicals and chemical processes
  • Reliable transportation
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, mainly MS Excel
  • Available 15-20 hrs./week (between 6:00am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Junior/Senior level with research experience preferred.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students
  • Experience with fabrication or process control software, such as LabView, a plus
