Salary/Position Classification

  • $48,000 - $50,000 Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.

Purpose of Position

As the Student Employment Specialist, you'll be the bridge between students seeking meaningful on-campus work opportunities and departments looking for talented student employees. You'll play a vital role in administering Federal Work Study programs, developing recruitment strategies, and ensuring students have access to employment that enhances their educational experience while maintaining academic success.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a robust Federal Work Study program and ensure compliance with Department of Education guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Monthly billing to designated off campus agencies
  • Oversee our student job listing website and approve employment opportunities
  • Review payroll forms from all departments and make corrections if necessary; approve all student employee hires and terminations in Human Resource Management System
  • Provide training and guidance to both supervisors and students on employment policies and best practices
  • Conduct engaging outreach and training sessions across campus
  • Assist departments and advise student employees regarding questions about payroll forms; hiring, keeping records, increasing student's wages, student earning potential, etc.
  • Maintain various student audits to ensure students are not working over 20 hours or during scheduled class times.
  • Lead our Student Employment Advisory Board to continuously improve programs
  • Coordinate off-campus employment opportunities through our Job Location and Development Program
  • Schedule, plan, and market Student Employment events
  • Supervise up to 3 student employees.
  • Other duties as designed to support the mission of UND and the department.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of directly related experience.
  • Two years of experience working with staff or student recruitment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook with extensive Excel experience.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in Financial Aid, Payroll, or Human Resources.
  • Supervising experience.
  • Experience working with UND Human Resources and Payroll processes.
  • Experience with continuous improvement strategies and tools.
  • Two years of experience in a university setting.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Student Admin module, Human Resources module, and Perceptive Content.
  • Experience with UND policies and procedures.
  • One year of experience with Title IV regulations.
