Purpose of Position
This position listing is for Summer 2026 employment for the Summer Camp & Conference Assistant position.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. Unsolicited applications to this posting will NOT be considered.
A Summer Camp & Conference Assistant at the University of North Dakota will create positive, safe, and interactive living environments for youth or adult summer camp and conference participants living in the residence halls. This is accomplished through camp and conference room prep, including bed-making, camp and conference guest check-in and check-out tabling, serving in an on-call duty rotation, providing emergency response, and completing other administrative tasks as assigned. In addition to camp check-ins and check-outs in various residence hall locations, Summer Camp & Conference Assistants will respond to the Swanson Hall front desk, providing customer service by issuing keys to summer conference guests and addressing questions and concerns. Summer Camp & Conference Assistant will also complete departmental projects such as preparing for fall staff training, preparing for Fall student move-in, giving tours during Summer Orientation, organizing office spaces, assisting with key audits, and completing furniture inventories and moves. This position serves on a staff of 6 Summer Camp & Conference Assistants and works approximately 25 hours per week.
Duties & Responsibilities
- General Responsibilities
- Actively support and demonstrate the Housing & Residence Life Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Diversity Statements
- Maintain a supportive and cooperative attitude regarding fellow staff members and supervisors
- Represent the University and the Office of Housing & Residence Life in a positive manner. Conference Responsibilities
- Participate in the Summer Camp & Conference Assistant Training
- Participate in prepping and inspecting rooms prior to guest arrival
- Provide effective and quality customer service to all guests
- Serve as a source of information concerning UND and the Grand Forks community
- Facilitate guest check-ins and check-outs
- Assist with Camp & Conference activities
- Assist with the move-out process and damage assessments
- Serve as a role model, communicate, and consistently uphold camp, conference and housing policies
- Participate in an on-call duty rotation to complete regular building rounds and provide assistance to guest afterhours as needed
- Report all emergencies and behavior management situations to a supervisor and RD on call Desk and On-Call Responsibilities
- Work desk shifts in accordance with expectations
- Log in and out equipment
- Issue pass keys to residents who are locked out
- Enter reported work orders into The Housing Director Mobile (THD Mobile)
- When assigned a duty shift, be on call as assigned
- Complete at least three sets of rounds and be visible in the community during duty coverage
- Be the first contact person in the event of a guest concern or emergency Administrative and Project Responsibilities
- Attend all weekly staff meetings as scheduled by your supervisor
- Assist with Summer Orientation by providing building tours or serving as a departmental liaison at resource fair tabling
- Regularly assist with departmental projects such as Welcome Weekend and move-in preparation, Microfridge deliveries, furniture inventories and movement, building key audits, etc.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have open and flexible availability. Work will require regular night work with occasional weekend and weekday work
- Must have clear availability to work camp and conference groups check-in and check-out shifts, which vary by groups
- Must have a clear availability to work Summer Orientation tours and resource fair tabling
- Must be mature, responsible, dependable and punctual
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Demonstrate basic computer skills (after provided training) with pertinent software
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Ability to accept and follow directions
- Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Capable of instituting emergency protocols
- Ability to positively represent UND and the office of Housing & Residence Life
- Team player who is willing to assist in completing tasks
- Must have a thorough knowledge of campus and community resources and facilities
- Open to all majors
- Verification of college course cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at start of employment
- Must be 18 years or older by May 1, 2026
- Must have been enrolled in the Spring 2026 semester and be enrolled in Fall 2026 classes
- Must have lived in on-campus housing for at least one full semester prior to starting the position
- Must meet residence hall eligibility requirement and reside in assigned room throughout the terms of their employment
- Applicants may not hold outside employment, internship, CFI, or student teach during their term of employment
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Preference given to applicants who are not taking summer classes
- If applicants want to take summer courses while employed, they may take up to 6 credits (1 class per summer session)
- Prior leadership experience preferred
- Prior UND Housing & Residence Life employment experience preferred
- Prior knowledge of University of North Dakota policies, Residence Hall policies, and Camp & Conference Services policies preferred
- Prior experience with and knowledge of customer service standards preferred
