Purpose of Position

The Garden Education Coordinator designs and leads hands-on educational programming rooted in the university learning garden space. This role bridges nature-based education and environmental stewardship to engage diverse community members — from young children to adults — in meaningful, place-based learning. The Coordinator champions the garden as a living classroom and works collaboratively with garden directors, CEHD staff, UND students, school partners, community partners, and volunteers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate garden education curricula for diverse community audiences
  • Lead hands-on workshops, classes, and events
  • Oversee day-to-day care of the educational garden including planting, watering, pest management, and harvesting
  • Plan seasonal planting schedules and maintain garden records
  • Build relationships with schools, libraries, cultural organizations, and community groups to expand program reach
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate garden volunteers
  • Engage families and community members through events, workdays, and outreach
  • Represent the organization at community meetings, fairs, and partner events
  • Track program participation and maintain accurate records for reporting purposes
  • Support fundraising efforts including grant writing and donor communications as needed 

Required Competencies

  • Willing to work outside in variable weather at least 10 hours per week
  • Ability to work hours M-F between 9 and 4

Minimum Requirements

  • Current or Incoming CEHD Graduate Student
  • Previous experience working with undergraduate students in a direct teaching role
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
