Purpose of Position
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences is searching for a part-time (0.60 FTE) faculty member (12-month appointment), clinical Associate or Full Professor rank with an administrative role as Residency Program Director.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science is a multidisciplinary department. The Department’s philosophy is based on a comprehensive, integrated biopsychosocial model of brain function (mind, brain, and behavior) in health and illness. The Department provides undergraduate training in behavioral science and psychiatry and operates a fully accredited psychiatry residency training program. The overall Department mission is to serve the people of North Dakota through promoting excellence in the delivery of care by the many psychiatry and behavioral science providers in the state and region.
Primary role as Psychiatry Residency Program Director, will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Psychiatry Residency training, curriculum development, and scholarship.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensuring the program follows all applicable ACGME requirements and UND and healthy system policies.
- Involvement in the teaching activities for psychiatry residents.
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of the psychiatry residency curriculum.
- Administration and evaluation of psychiatry residents.
- Provision of reports, as required, to the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.
- Recruitment and retention of psychiatry residents.
- Other academic duties as may be assigned by the Chairman of the Department.
- Serve on appropriate UNDSMHS committees.
- Supervision of psychiatry residents.
Minimum Requirements
- M.D./D.O. eligible for license to practice in North Dakota
- Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- Graduate of approved residency in Psychiatry
- Five years’ minimum practice required
- Five years’ teaching experience required
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an Associate Residency Program Director or Residency Program Director
- Clinical Faculty Appointment at UND SMHS in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science
- Experience within the UND SMHS Psychiatry Residency Program
