Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Duties & Responsibilities 100% -

  • Investigate the climatology and formation of tropical cyclones in the Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL) climate model, with an emphasis on African easterly waves.
  • Present results at informal research group meetings, to Atmospheric Sciences students and faculty, and/or at professional conferences.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the NOAA Model Diagnostics Task Force (MDTF) via Google Meet, and monthly meetings with collaborators from Penn State University. - (Essential)

Required Competencies

  • Basic understanding of controls on tropical cyclone climatology, including formation, structure, and intensity.
  • Data analysis and computer programming proficiency using Python, MATLAB, or an equivalent language.
  • Experience with technical writing and reading peer-reviewed scientific literature.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a degree in Atmospheric Sciences
  • Must have completed ATSC 270 (Computer Concepts in Meteorology) and ATSC 350 (Atmospheric Thermodynamics) through UND ATSC Department.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
