Salary/Position Classification

  • $58,000+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt
  • 40 hours per week Aug 1-May 31; 20 hours per week- June 1-July 31 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

To provide comprehensive mental health services to University students, and serves as a consultant regarding mental health matters to faculty, staff, and other members of the University community.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct Counseling Services:
    • Provide counseling services to University students
    • Provide immediate support for students experiencing a crisis. This includes assessing risk, interventions, and ensuring students receive the necessary care and follow-up
    • Facilitate groups as assigned
    • Collaboratively create treatment plans with clients
    • Uphold the ethical and legal obligation that licensure and profession require
    • Engage in appropriate consultations for care
    • Deliver workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
    • Provide clinical supervision to counselors in training to ensure quality clinical client care including review of medical documentation, recordings, and fostering clinical skills and growth 
  • Non-Direct Clinical Service:
    • Maintains appropriate medical documentation that meets accreditation standard and professional standards
    • Prepare reports, letters and other paperwork necessary to support counseling activities and comply with professional standards
    • Assist in development workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners
    • Assist to organize advertising/marketing efforts for UCC 
  • Professional activities, development and service:
    • Participate in UCC staff meetings to facilitate business operations and ensure high-quality services
    • Engage in activities like self-directed study, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on the latest in counseling practices and mental health research relevant to UCC mission
    • Maintain a license to practice in North Dakota
    • Working with other campus services, faculty, and external partners to coordinate campus initiatives
    • Dedicate time to ensure counseling practices are inclusive and culturally sensitive, including participate in training and development related to people with a broad range of backgrounds, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field; or Doctorate in Psychology.
  • Associate-level behavioral health license (e.g., LAPC, LMSW, LMFT Associate, Licensed Associate Psychologist, or equivalent) or eligibility to obtain associate-level licensure in North Dakota within three (3) months of hire.
  • Must be eligible to provide psychotherapy services in North Dakota.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Independent behavioral health licensure (e.g., LPC, LPCC, LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist, or equivalent).
  • Experience providing psychotherapy with college or university students.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Records Management System.
