Purpose of Position

The Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota (UND) seeks to fill a tenure-track/tenured faculty line at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank and Director of the Indians into Psychology Doctoral Education (INPSYDE) program to begin in the Fall of 2027, contingent upon availability of funding. Candidates should have expertise in any area of Clinical or Counseling Psychology, and experience in Indigenous Mental Health. We seek candidates who demonstrate potential to secure external funding (Assistant level) or have demonstrated success in securing external funding (Associate and Full levels) and have experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary partners, specifically with Indigenous populations. We seek an individual uniquely qualified to provide valuable cultural guidance and leadership to UND efforts to enhance and expand its research partnerships with area tribes, as well as all Indigenous research within the university.

The Department of Psychology is an academic unit within the College of Arts & Sciences at UND. It serves approximately 18 full-time faculty members, 460 undergraduate majors, 300 minors, and 185 graduate students, with programs in Clinical (APA-accredited), Experimental, and Forensic Psychology.

A Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program (completed by August 15, 2027), strong evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for establishing a funded research program, and evidence of teaching effectiveness are required. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with groups with a broad range of backgrounds is preferred. Promotion in this position will be tied to success in establishing and maintaining a strong, externally fundable research program and excelling in teaching.

UND is supportive of dual-career assistance both within the University and the local community. Please contact UND’s Recruiting Manager, Hannah Whalen (Hannah.Whalen@UND.edu), to explore dual-career opportunities.

  • All faculty are expected to contribute service to the department, college, university, and community. UND and the College of Arts & Sciences seek applicants who are committed to helping students from underrepresented backgrounds succeed.

The successful candidate’s contract effort will include teaching, research, service, and administrative responsibilities. The position includes a course reduction during the first year, with the teaching load thereafter adjusted based on continued funding from Indian Health Service (IHS). Continued IHS funding may also provide opportunities for summer support. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding potential to establish and sustain a research program that attracts external funding and aligns with the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.
