Communication Systems Engineer

The opportunity 

The Communication Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, administration, monitoring and support of UPA's communications infrastructure, including enterprise wired and wireless networking, telephony, nurse call platforms and carer communication technologies. 

Reporting to the Technology Operations and Security Manager, you will provide technical leadership across critical communication services and work closely with internal stakeholders, clinical and operational teams, technology vendors and service providers to ensure systems remain reliable, secure, scalable and fit for purpose. 

What you will be responsible for 

  • Design, implement, configure and support enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure across UPA locations. 

  • Maintain switching, routing, wireless access points, network segmentation, WAN connectivity and related network services. 

  • Design, configure and administer telephony platforms, including call routing, auto attendants, hunt groups, voicemail, handsets and softphones. 

  • Coordinate carrier services such as SIP trunks, mobile services, internet circuits and telephony migrations. 

  • Support nurse call systems and act as the primary technical liaison with nurse call vendors and service providers. 

  • Configure and administer Whistle carer communications and related care communication technologies. 

  • Lead technical design and implementation activities for communications infrastructure projects and develop scalable solution standards. 

  • Monitor system health, capacity, availability and security, and resolve complex incidents and service disruptions. 

  • Coordinate external vendors, installations, maintenance and support activities while monitoring performance against service levels. 

  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration records, backups, technical documentation, procedures and asset information. 

What you will bring 

  • A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Networking or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. 

  • At least five years' experience in a Communications Engineer, Network Engineer, Unified Communications Engineer or similar role. 

  • Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise wired and wireless networks. 

  • Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, routing, switching, VPNs and network security principles. 

  • Experience administering enterprise telephony platforms and coordinating carrier services. 

  • Experience supporting nurse call, healthcare communications or other critical communication systems. 

  • Strong troubleshooting, project delivery, stakeholder engagement, communication and technical documentation skills. 

Highly regarded: Juniper certifications or equivalent networking credentials, experience in aged care or healthcare, familiarity with Whistle, structured cabling, cloud-managed networking, monitoring platforms and communications cybersecurity.
