General Information:

The Program and Student Development Coordinator at the Community Engagement & Volunteer Center provides support for Madison Community Scholars and Alternative Break Program, including effective curriculum development, program implementation, and creative use of shared resources. Acquires, maintains, and contributes to the body of knowledge and expertise that leads to the ongoing improvement of CEVC programs and partnerships. Anticipates, identifies, and responds to issues to the function and future development of community engaged leadership programs, including budget and resource management. Facilitates content and develops relationships that help each student thrive.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Function: Provides leadership and coordination for Madison Community Scholars

  • Coordinates recruitment, selection, placement, and site visits.
  • Coordinates with CEVC staff for community partnership development and matching.
  • Supports ongoing curriculum development and implementation through orientation, regular workshops, and community building activities.
  • Serves as the primary contact for first year Madison Community Scholars.
  • Participates in the returning MCS and Scholar-Leader advancement process.
  • Provides information and professional judgment related to student leaders, trends, and programmatic needs.

Function: Provides leadership and coordination for the Alternative Break Program

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, orientation, development of student leaders, learning partners, and community partners.
  • Supervises a team of student coordinators.
  • Coordinates the ongoing development and implementation of a multi-week training program of workshops and retreats.
  • Supports effective budget, resource, and liability management.
  • Maintains and develops community partners and Break locations

Function: Communicates and Represents CEVC

  • Represents CEVC on and off campus.
  • Coordinates with other CEVC programs to ensure the availability of services, avoid duplication, and maximize opportunity and impact.
  • Participates in staff meetings. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships.
  • Provides information and professional judgment related to student and program needs and communicates issues appropriately. 

Function: Supports evaluation and assessment 

  • Gathers student and community partner feedback and/or assess and evaluate effectiveness of partnerships, community impact, and student learning.

 

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Experience facilitating learning for personal growth, professional development, community building and social action
  • Ability to develop and deliver content using experiential learning techniques
  • Demonstrated skills in group facilitation, planning, problem-solving, and effective communication 
  • Demonstrated commitment to co-creating just and sustainable communities 


Additional Considerations: 

  • Supervision experience
  • Experience working in a collegiate setting 
  • Experience with Federal Work Study and/or Alternative Break Programs 
  • Knowledge of student development and community engagement practices 

 

Additional Posting Information:

This position is grant funded through September 30, 2026 with the intent to renew for an additional 3 years.
