General Information:
James Madison University’s dynamic School of Integrated Sciences (SIS) is searching for a dedicated and service-oriented Administrative Assistant to serve as an integral part of our collaborative team. The successful candidate will support the overriding vision by providing administrative and clerical support for SIS. Primary focus areas include supporting faculty, staff, and students associated with the school, assisting our vibrant academic programs, planning and marketing events, and hiring and tracking student employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual serving in this role will be collaborative, self-motivated, resourceful, and responsive. Maintaining positive and productive relationships and effective communication with faculty, staff, administrators, and students will be top priorities for this service-focused position. They will seek to grow their knowledge of the SIS academic programs and university workflows.
Key tasks include:
• Provide daily support for SIS faculty, students, laboratory technicians/coordinators, advisors, program directors, and Co-Directors.
• Manage the administrative tasks associated with student hiring, timesheets, and termination.
• Support our programs, and coordinate catering, venues, staff (volunteers and Ambassadors), and market for events such as annual research symposia and recruiting events, recurring faculty meetings (program and school), faculty candidate on-campus interviews, and ad hoc visitors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Ability to interact professionally with the university’s faculty, staff, students, and the public.
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer service experience.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain a comprehensive filing system and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to ensure compliance with processing guidelines and resolving issues as they arise.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Adaptability and willingness to assist others.
Additional Considerations:
• Administrative experience in higher education’s academic environment is beneficial, but not required.
