General Information:
Facilities and Event Services in Student Life at James Madison University is currently seeking applicants for the Audio Visual and Production Specialist for Student Life. This position contributes to high quality service in the operation of three university facilities; has oversight of audio visual and production technology for the Office of Student Life professional and student staff; and this position develops and implements student staff training. This position serves as a campus security authority under the Jean Cleary Campus Safety Act.
The Division of Student Affairs includes University Career Center, Center for Multicultural Student Services, Community Engagement and Volunteer Center, Counseling Center, Dean of Students, Disability Services, Student Accountability & Restorative Practices, Residence Life, Student Life, University Health Center, University Recreation, and Well Dukes. The division is an integral part of the campus community and works collaboratively with the other divisions of the university in supporting the mission, vision, and values of the university. Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical configuration and maintenance:
Coordinate the technical support of venues and events in the Festival, SSC and the Union (Facilities and Event Services, FES), Memorial Hall, and outdoor spaces that fall under the purview of the Office of Student Life.
Maintain current knowledge on practices pertinent to the position. Needs to drive a vehicle to various locations under the Office of Student Life purview.
Supervision, training, and development:
Supervision of student staff.
Design, implement, and conduct staff development and performance evaluations for student staff.
Hire, train, supervise and schedule student employees.
Develop, coordinate, implement, and assess a comprehensive student employee development program designed to enhance the leadership and professional skills of all FES student employees.
Facilitates cross-training for student staff for Audio/Visual production and connects training with departmental learning outcomes.
Scheduling and Event Services Support:
Assist the Student Life building managers in the design, installation, engineering, and operation of the light, sound and video equipment in all event spaces.
Work with the Scheduling team in any pre-event production preparation. Provide on-site support for production heavy events.
Troubleshoot and respond to issues and requests.
Delivers exemplary customer service.
Routinely provide AV event onsite during events under Student Life purview.
Equipment Management:
Performs scheduled inventory audits, preventive maintenance, software, and firmware
updates on AV equipment.
Direct responsibility for the coordination of repair and maintenance of fixed assets
and other AV/Technology equipment.
Propose cost-saving strategies and be informed on new AV technologies.
Departmental contribution and professional development:
Contribute to the success of the Office of Student Life.
Minimum 20 hours professional development annually.
Serve on institutional, divisional, department committees and coordinate initiatives with university groups as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Required:
-Knowledge of current information technologies, including but not limited to audio and video technology, projection and presentation systems, conferencing systems, Microsoft Office applications.
-Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and methods related to audio/video technology equipment.
-Knowledge of computer hardware, software, cabling, terminations, cable testing, and networking basics. Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures
-Ability to maintain and troubleshoot computer, audio, and video equipment hardware and software.
-Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
-Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment.
-Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and external stakeholders

Working hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00pm-11:00pm
