General Information:

The Office of Human Resources at James Madison University is accepting applications for an HR Consultant. The successful candidate will participate as a member of the HR Consulting Services Team; partner and consult with employees, supervisors, and department leaders on a variety of HR issues including classification and compensation, salary studies, professional development, employee relations, performance evaluation and management, employee recognition, policy development and interpretation, compliance, and institutional effectiveness measures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a business partner to deliver proactive, effective, and excellent HR services to internal and external customers through creative problem-solving, exchanging ideas with university colleagues, and in-depth HR knowledge and experience. Duties include:

-Providing academic and non-academic customers with guidance and coaching in the areas of policy compliance, compensation, employee relations, and professional development with limited supervision.
-Researching, analyzing, and determining classification and compensation-related issues.
-Managing and resolving complex employee relations issues, including conducting thorough and objective investigations.
-Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of HR legislation providing interpretation and advice to customers to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
-Providing guidance and input on business unit reorganizations and workforce planning.
-Developing job aids and relevant training materials and leading training events on HR topics to various audiences.

 

Qualifications:

-Significant experience in one or more functional areas of human resource management, preferably related to classification, compensation, employee relations, and/or performance management.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess metrics, conduct compensation analyses, and make data-informed decisions.
-Proven ability to research, analyze, develop, and interpret established laws, rules, policies, practices, and procedures to make logical decisions.
-Possess a thorough knowledge of HR legislation and regulations.
-Knowledge of HR best practices and related trends.
-Proficiency in expressing ideas and guidance clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
-Demonstrated customer service knowledge reflecting significant customer service experience.
-Demonstrated experience fostering relationships and collaborating with diverse groups, including non-exempt staff and professional-level managers and directors.
-Demonstrated understanding of leadership, management, and related practices.
-Ability to manage time, work independently, and prioritize work to successfully perform in a fast-paced work environment.
-Familiarity with policies and procedures specific to higher education is preferred.
