General Information:

The Office of Financial Reporting seeks a Director to join us in supporting
the University’s mission by producing reliable, timely financial information and
transactions. The primary emphasis of this role is on the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports and analysis, including the University's annual financial statements. Further emphasis includes evaluation of the University's accounting procedures and internal controls, reconciliation of internal and external financial systems, customer service and supervision of a professional accounting staff. We are a customer-service oriented office with a strong commitment to quality, integrity, and professionalism.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Preparation and completion of timely and accurate financial reports, financial information and analysis, data requests, etc. provided to both internal and external sources. Reports include, but are not limited to the University's annual financial statements, annual NCAA/EADA Reports, quarterly Board of Visitors Report, and monthly Revenue Report.
- Review, analyze and implement new GASB standards and other relevant financial reporting guidelines and standards.
- Supervise a staff of professional accountants, clerical staff, and possibly students.
- Serve as contact liaison for the external audit.
- Review and advise the Associate Controller and AVP for Finance on accounting and internal controls for the University, including directing the Agency Risk Management and Internal Controls (ARMICs) program.
- Oversee maintenance of the University's general ledger and chart of accounts for accuracy and compliance with University, State and Federal guidelines.
- Special assignments and other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

- Experience in public accounting.
- Experience in state university or other higher education setting.
- Supervisory experience over two or more full-time direct reports.
- Experience in auditing, preparing, or aiding in the preparation of financial statements for a large organization.
- Expert knowledge of accounting principles as defined by GAAP as well as a general working knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Demonstrated familiarity with GASB standards and/or higher education financial operations, policies and procedures.
- The ability to work independently with minor supervision and to work effectively with other employees both within the department and across the University community.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure when necessary to meet deadlines, etc., including working occasional weekends during financial statements season.
- Computer experience is required. Expertise in Excel or comparable a spreadsheet tool is beneficial. Experience with PeopleSoft or other financial management system is beneficial.
