General Information:
Conference Services at James Madison University is accepting applications for four (4) Temporary Summer Conference Assistant for Night Operations. These positions work closely with Sponsors, Campus Partners and Conference Services staff to finalize arrangement of facilities and services to best suit the specific program’s needs.
These positions will work primarily afternoon and night shifts Sunday – Saturday from May 18, 2026, until August 4, 2026, 3 to 5 days per 7-day week.
May 19th – May 23rd, the shift will be 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Starting May 26th, the shift will be 4pm-12am, on call 12am-7am.
Additional opportunities to assist with check -in responsibilities.
25-30 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages Conference Services 24-hour phone line and responds to all calls and requests from 5:00p.m.-12:00a.m.
- Carries On-Call mobile phone to respond to call 12:00a.m.-7:00a.m.
- Assists with preparation of Residence Halls for conference groups (linens, inspections, placing signage inside and outside of buildings, and special requests).
- Assists with group check ins and check outs after hours.
- Places and tracks the status of work order (maintenance) requests.
- Marks rooms that are under maintenance / have finished maintenance on IRIS (computer system).
- Provides notes for daytime staff in Night Operations Log of all necessary updates.
- Responsible for the upkeep of Conference Services vehicles, ensuring they are maintained and fueled.
- Tracks and updates the Night Ops logbook (log all requests and calls occurring during your shift).
Qualifications:
Required:
- Organization, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
- Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service experience
- Attention to detail
- Experience working in a team, and/or leading a team
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, databases, or administration computer software
- A valid driver's license is required for this position

Conditions of Employment:
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
