General Information:

James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Mid American Conference, is seeking a Head Field Hockey Coach. This position is a full time position with a comprehensive benefits package.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching, training and motivating student-athletes in order to achieve competitive success. Establishing a vision for the field hockey program that will lead to success on and off the field.

Responsible for the administration of the Women’s Field Hockey program. Duties include oversight for: organizing and schedule practices, facilities, games, and weight program; arrange travel, lodging, meals; travel with the team, develop and monitor budget, scout opponents, complete all requisitions, reimbursement vouchers, accounting vouchers, supervise the care, maintenance, inventory of equipment, supervision and development of staff.

Responsible for recruiting quality student-athletes who meet admission requirements and who have the potential to graduate. Make determinations concerning scholarship offers and work with your Athletic Administrator/Admissions Office on prospective student-athletes. All necessary forms (financial aid, admissions, medical, etc.) are completed correctly and promptly.

Encouraging a holistic development of student-athletes that aligns with the Athletic Departments mission statement. Monitoring students academic success and promoting an atmosphere that fosters high academic success.

Ensuring compliance with all relevant institutional, Conference, NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community to better enhance public relations. Assist the Duke club in the promotion and fundraising of JMU Athletics. Accept invitations to speak at various clinics, camps, and organizations; and as budget permits, attend conferences and workshops in order to grow and develop as a coach.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years coaching experience required with preference given to those who have coached collegiate aged athletes
  • Demonstrated ability of talent evaluation and/or recruitment at the collegiate or national team level
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse population to include students, staff, and parents
  • Experience with planning, managing, and oversight of a budget for a department, business, or program

Preferred:

  • Experience playing field hockey at high level (collegiate, national team or equivalent experience)
  • General knowledge of Division I NCAA rules
  • Head coaching experience
  • Prior supervisory level experience of staff members
  • Demonstrated ability of setting expectations, creating a vision, and motivating others towards reaching established goals
