General Information:

Global Ambassadors are study abroad returnees and student leaders who support the work of the Study Abroad unit within the Center for Global Engagement. The Global Dukes Assistant coordinates and supports the Global Dukes volunteer program, focusing on training, scheduling, and community building.

The position is for a one-year academic term, beginning Fall 2026 and concluding at the end of the Spring 2027 semester.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan orientations and trainings for prospective Global Dukes.
• Schedule Global Dukes meetings, with a mix of social and professional development opportunities.
• Work 1:1 with Global Dukes to provide resources for tabling, presentations, and other outreach assignments.
• Communicate with Global Dukes to staff volunteer opportunities.
• Track Global Dukes volunteer hours and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach activities.
• Plan one study abroad returnee event per year.
• Attend required professional development trainings throughout the academic year.
• Assist Advising Assistants with advising sessions, both drop-in and scheduled, when necessary.
• Assist with special projects assigned, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engagement and Outreach.
• Maintain a professional appearance while wearing CGE-issued apparel.

 

Qualifications:

• Availability to work 4 hours per week during standard business hours.
• Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
• Previous JMU study abroad participation is required before the start date.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Attendance at required professional development trainings throughout the academic year, including mandatory, in-person training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 24 and 25, 2026.

--CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT--
• Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
• Students must have a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA.

• All student employee New Hire paperwork must be completed before the August 24–25, 2026, in‑person training. Note: Because this process must be completed in person, travel to Harrisonburg may be required if the paperwork is not completed before the summer.
