General Information:

The Director of the Center for Faculty Innovation (CFI) advocates for excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and well-being by supporting faculty development. The director will lead a team of Assistant Directors to develop programming that meets the goals of the CFI in supporting JMU faculty. The Director serves at the discretion of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Curriculum (VPFAC); reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Success; and facilitates the CFI leadership team, along with the assistant directors. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Execute the CFI’s strategic plan, with attention to continuous assessment and alignment with both the academic affairs and university strategic plan. 

• Plan and coordinate a comprehensive evaluation of the CFI focused on continuing to strengthen its position and role in supporting the success of a faculty at JMU. 

• Supervise a team of faculty at the CFI while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes well-being. 

• Lead one of the CFI programming areas/portfolios by developing/maintaining programming and participating in university-level conversations that relate to the area. 

• Maintain active engagement in the educational development discipline through publications, grant writing, and presentations at educational development conferences. 

• Elevate the CFI’s external presence and reputation while creating intentional opportunities for collaboration and shared learning with other centers.

• Manage day-to-day operational aspects of the CFI including physical offices, online presence, registration system/database, and interface with university business and reporting systems. 

• Steward the CFI image and culture with respect to the overall Center mission and operational priorities. 

• Serve as a member of the leadership team for the Office of Faculty Success and contribute to strategic initiatives of the Office. 

• Serve as a representative of CFI, Faculty Success, VPFAC, and Provost’s office in official and informal capacity with JMU faculty, senior leadership, alumni and other community groups as needed. 

• Provide management and leadership in other capacities as needed. 

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications 

• A terminal degree
• Demonstrated leadership in supporting faculty through a teacher-scholar model
• Proven success in strategic planning, organizational change, and team leadership
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
• Experience in educational/faculty development  
• Deep commitment to excellence in teaching and learning for all faculty  

Preferred Qualifications  

•Experience teaching in higher education 
•Leadership Experience in educational/faculty development  
•Experience with hybrid/online teaching modalities, generative AI in instruction, digital pedagogy, and scalable educational development across modalities  
•Experience with UDL and/or digital accessibility 
•National/international professional engagement (e.g., with POD) and contribution to the field of educational development
