General Information:
University Recreation (UREC) is currently seeking applicants for the Facilities Manager position. The Facilities Manager serves on the University Recreation (UREC) staff and reports to the Associate Director of Facilities & Operations. This position provides maintenance oversight for UREC's indoor and outdoor satellite facilities, ensuring safe, functional, and program-ready environments that support recreation programs, sport competitions, special events, and university engagement.
UREC is a Health & Well-being department within the Student Affairs division. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Satellite Facility Maintenance
- Perform weekly inspection, cleaning and minor repairs of all goals, fencing, netting, and site furnishings at satellite facilities (including but not limited to University Park, Team Challenge Course, Disc Golf Course, UREC trails, John Carr Field, Archery Range, UREC Turf, Long Mauck Stadium, Harper Allen Lee Studio, and Hillside Courts).
- Perform routine field maintenance on all UREC turf fields.
- Identify potential major maintenance needs for long term project planning.
- Provide equipment support to programs that utilize UPARK and Satellite Facilities.
- Coordinate equipment services to include shipping/receiving at UPARK and all satellite facilities.
- Performs weekly cleaning, trip prep (gas) and minor maintenance of small truck, all-terrain vehicles and electric golf cart.
- Maintain organized storage spaces at UPARK Bunker storage and Kelsey Lane facility.
- Ensure UPARK grill and propane tanks (UPARK & UREC) are cleaned, filled and ready for use by groups.
- Coordinate and inspect all satellite bathroom units (permanent and temporary) cleaned and supplied at least weekly, to ensure all housekeeping/service is performed to a high standard.
2. Shared Facility Maintenance
- Perform and plan the maintenance of shared satellite spaces in collaboration with space owner (including but not limited to Memorial Softball Practice Field, Godwin Combatives Room, Godwin Gymnastics Room, Godwin 135, and Field Hockey turf and track).
- Perform routine inspection and submit work orders to FM where appropriate and/or make Athletics staff aware of maintenance issues.
- Provide equipment support to programs that utilize shared facilities.
- Coordinates housekeeping to support special event programs in shared facilities.
3. Administration
- Prepares and tracks the overall budget for satellite facility maintenance and submits for approval according to UREC budget process deadlines.
- Initiates purchases for all satellite facility equipment and maintenance as needed.
- Utilizes Connect2Concepts software on a daily basis for all Satellite/Shared facility repairs identified by professional and student staff.
- Submits work orders via the FM AiM system for all work needing FM support.
- Conduct regular inspection of FM trades work orders to ensure completion according to UREC standards.
- Provides timely communication with all UREC staff in regards to ongoing facility and satellite facility projects that may affect programming.
- Reconciles all charge-back reports from FM to ensure accuracy and approves internal charges.
- Serves as the secondary Building Coordinator for UPARK and Satellite Facilities in the absence of the Associate Director for Facilities & Operations.
4. Collaboration
- Serves as a member of the UREC team and on committees as assigned.
- Attends departmental retreats, divisional meetings, bi-monthly departmental staff meetings, and 1-on-1 meetings with supervisor as scheduled.
- Attend UREC Event Operations meetings to ensure facilities are ready for UREC Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports, Special Events, general programming and reservations.
- Perform equipment repairs when Equipment Manager is out of office (priority repairs that have potential to be safety/risk management issue).
- Recruit, hire and train 1-2 student employees to support the overall satellite facility equipment and maintenance of UREC. Support opportunities for students to gain professional development
- Collaborate with UREC Equipment Manager on major equipment repairs as needed.
- On a periodic basis, adjust work schedule to support departmental major events.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Experience in facility maintenance
- Experience in equipment maintenance and repair
- Basic computer skills
- Valid Driver’s License
Additional Considerations:
- Experience in outdoor sport and recreation facility maintenance (ex: line painting, turf grooming, natural grass maintenance, outdoor plumbing)
- Experience in outdoor/recreational equipment maintenance and repair (ex: scoreboards, sport goals)
- Experience independently overseeing internal and external contractors for maintenance and repair projects
- Experience driving/operating specialty outdoor vehicles/machinery (ex: turf groomer, turf field liner)
- Experience utilizing software programs relevant to position
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain strong relationships across the university and with vendors
