University Writing Center Graduate Assistantships - Outreach Specialist & Collaborative Writing Specialist in Harrisonburg
The University Writing Center (UWC), one of the Learning Centers programs, is an academic support resource that assists JMU students, faculty, and staff on their writing through appointment-based consultations, course workshops, and online resources. The bulk of our work is the writing consultations that are conducted either online or in person in the Learning Centers space on the first floor of the Student Success Center that employ a collaborative peer education model. Graduate Assistants work up to 20 hours per week with the following being the expected breakdown: 10 weekly hours of writing consultation, 5 weekly hours of center administration/work on a self-directed project and 5 weekly hours allotted for meetings and email correspondence.

The Occupational Therapy Clinical Education Services (OTCES) is a pediatric clinic providing one-on-one occupational therapy evaluations, interventions, and consultative services, as well as group programs and camps offered to meet the needs of the community. With an academic connection to Department of Health Professions and a clinical connection to the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services, OTCES serves as a teaching-learning environment for students from many different programs while meeting distinct community needs. YSEALI Student Mentor - IE in Harrisonburg
James Madison University (JMU) is honored to host the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellows Program on Society and Governance, funded by a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. This program will bring emerging leaders from Southeast Asia to JMU from April 17 – May 17, 2025, followed by a week in Washington, D.C., where they will join all 250 YSEALI fellows for group meetings and reflections. During their time at JMU, the fellows will engage in discussions and activities on U.S. society and governance, with sub-themes including Democracy and Policymaking, Refugee Resettlement, Anti-Corruption and Accountability, and the U.S. Healthcare System. They will also participate in academic and cultural tours in our nearby areas, Richmond, Washington, D.C., and Boston. JMU's Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is seeking six dedicated student mentors for the YSEALI program. This is a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful cross-cultural mentorship while gaining hands-on experience in leadership and global exchange! Academic Success Program Peer Instructor - IE in Harrisonburg
The Academic Success Program (ASP) is a program intervention developed to assist JMU students on academic suspension or academic probation employ the academic strategies and personal motivations needed to be successful at JMU. The workshop sessions are focused on topics including time management, motivation/campus resources, studying, self-care, and professional etiquette. Topics will be delivered through discussion and exploration of the actions, strategies, and skills for immediate utilization. Peer Instructors (PIs) for the Academic Success Program (ASP) play a central role in empowering and supporting students facing academic and personal challenges by facilitating the program's curriculum and acting as a support system for ASP students. PIs will be assigned a caseload of 5-8 students with whom they will work throughout the entirety of the program. PIs also help to prepare workshop content and utilize their creative freedom to generate a plan and structure that best suits their facilitation style and the learning style of the student. This position can provide valuable experience for students looking to add new professional skills to their resumes.
