The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at James Madison University invites applications for the position of Academic Unit Head (AUH) to begin July 1st, 2026. The position is a 12-month tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor with a teaching load of 1-1. The department has 23 full-time faculty members engaged in diverse research programs across numerous subfields within Sociology and Anthropology, respectively. Faculty are also highly engaged in professional service at the university, local, national, and international levels. Our faculty provide excellent and creative educational experiences for majors, minors, and students in other programs across campus, in large and small classroom settings, including courses that provide “hands-on” training in research methods, theory, and analysis. The department also plays a significant role in teaching numerous courses for the General Education program. The department maintains multiple research spaces, labs, and other pedagogical venues that provide space for, support to, and training in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies. The department is part of JMU’s College of Arts and Letters, which enrolls more than 3,100 undergraduate majors and about 150 graduate students across ten academic units. The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University offers an engaging and dynamic Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences curriculum. The Health Sciences major is a popular major at JMU with approximately 1500 total students declared and is designed for students interested in understanding the causes of disease, strategies for promoting health, wellness, and behavior change, and the scientific basis and methodologies for analyzing health for both individuals and populations. APRILab - IE in Harrisonburg

Founded in 2022, the American Political Reform & Innovation Lab (APRILab) in the College of Arts and Letters is a nonpartisan, civic- and community-engaged political science and data science research lab. APRILab produces original, evidence-based research on institutional political reform in collaboration with internal and external social scientists and data scientists, and with leading experts in the national political reform advocacy community. The lab’s research addresses significant, real-world problems posed by institutional dysfunction, democratic backsliding, and unequal political influence. APRILab is seeking undergraduate and graduate lab associates to begin working in Fall 2022. The duties will require 5 to 20 hours per week depending on student qualifications, undergraduate or graduate status, and scheduling needs. This is a minimum one-semester appointment, with preference given to students who anticipate being eligible to continue for the full academic year and who have an interest in continuing one or more additional years. Students who identify themselves as a member of a traditionally marginalized population are especially encouraged to apply.
