Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor – Department of Computer Science in Harrisonburg
The Department of Computer Science at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to begin August 2026. We are committed to cultivating a welcoming environment for our faculty, staff, and students, and we value candidates who will be both impactful teachers and impactful scholars. Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. The JMU CS department is a vibrant and supportive community with 33 full-time faculty members teaching in the Computer Science and Information Technology programs. The Computer Science program has approximately 700 undergraduate majors and 60 minors, as well as an online M.S. Degree in Cybersecurity with approximately 60 students. The IT program has approximately 250 majors. We are dedicated to supporting a culture that balances excellence in teaching, small class sizes, and opportunities for faculty and student research. The department sponsors many active clubs and organizations including Women in Technology, Robotics, Cyber Defense, and a student ACM chapter. We have an outstanding undergraduate Teaching Assistant program that helps novice students feel welcomed and supported regardless of their prior experience. Our students are actively involved outside the university as well, taking part in ACM SIGSCE, regional and national cyber defense competitions, programming competitions, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing. The Department is an active member of the NCWIT Academic Alliance and one of the original Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University offers an engaging and dynamic Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences curriculum. The Health Sciences major is a popular major at JMU with approximately 1500 total students declared and is designed for students interested in understanding the causes of disease, strategies for promoting health, wellness, and behavior change, and the scientific basis and methodologies for analyzing health for both individuals and populations. Upon degree completion, graduates are prepared for immediate employment in multiple allied health areas or a pathway to graduate studies in a variety of disciplines, including medicine, optometry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, physical rehabilitation, and other professional preparation programs. APRILab - IE in Harrisonburg
Founded in 2022, the American Political Reform & Innovation Lab (APRILab) in the College of Arts and Letters is a nonpartisan, civic- and community-engaged political science and data science research lab. APRILab produces original, evidence-based research on institutional political reform in collaboration with internal and external social scientists and data scientists, and with leading experts in the national political reform advocacy community. The lab’s research addresses significant, real-world problems posed by institutional dysfunction, democratic backsliding, and unequal political influence. APRILab is seeking undergraduate and graduate lab associates to begin working in Fall 2022. The duties will require 5 to 20 hours per week depending on student qualifications, undergraduate or graduate status, and scheduling needs. This is a minimum one-semester appointment, with preference given to students who anticipate being eligible to continue for the full academic year and who have an interest in continuing one or more additional years. Students who identify themselves as a member of a traditionally marginalized population are especially encouraged to apply.
