The Madison Center for Civic Engagement at James Madison University is seeking an innovative and dynamic Associate Director of Civic Discourse Initiatives to lead one of the nation’s most comprehensive campus-based civic discourse programs. This is a high‑impact role for a collaborative educator, facilitator, and program builder who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and cares deeply about preparing the next generation of students for using constructive dialogue in a complex world. About the Role: The Associate Director will spearhead the Madison Center’s signature free-speech and deliberative dialogue initiative, Better Conversations Together, our immersive first year effort; supporting faculty and student leadership development; and shaping campuswide and nationwide dialogue opportunities. You will also play a key leadership role in managing two major grants civic discourse grants, coordinating multi-institutional partners, faculty fellows, external organizations, and assessment teams to advance national work in deliberative pedagogy. This position is hands‑on, student‑centered, and deeply collaborative—ideal for someone who brings both vision and operational excellence.

    • Graduate Assistant, Catalog Production Office in Harrisonburg

      This position provides support to the Office of Faculty Affairs and Curriculum by primarily assisting in the production and editorial aspects of publications (catalogs and other publications), as well as contributing to other departmental projects. The graduate assistant will be expected to work 20 hours per week in person in the Office of Faculty Affairs and Curriculum. Weekly work schedule is flexible within a Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm schedule. This graduate assistantship provides 18 credit hours of tuition support for the school year (9 credit hours per semester). The position begins in Fall 2026.

      The Student-Athlete Development (Dukes Lead) team at James Madison University is seeking candidates for one graduate assistant. This position is contracted for the 2026-27 academic year, with the ability to extend the contract through the 2027-28 academic year. Student-Athlete Development is committed to the holistic growth and development of James Madison University student-athletes through career readiness, community service, human development and leadership enhancement. The transformative experiences under Dukes Lead serve to equip, engage and empower student-athletes and teams to unleash their full potential. Graduate assistantships include enrollment in a graduate program and involve 20 hours of work per week during the academic school year. Graduate assistants will begin work prior to the start of the school year, and the position continues through the end of the academic year. In addition to the stipend, positions include a tuition waiver and a professional development stipend. Individuals may apply for this graduate assistantship prior to academic admission; however, an individual must be accepted into a graduate program before an offer is made. Preference for this graduate assistantship is given to those admitted to the Sport and Recreation Leadership, Sport and Recreation Concentration. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
