Job Summary/Basic Functions The Director is responsible for the development, coordination, control, and direction for all emergency management planning, preparedness, readiness assurance; helps to coordinate systematic response and recovery actions at UMW. The Director provides strategic, university-wide leadership and coordination in crisis and emergency preparedness, training, and response. The Director works closely with leadership in UMW police and public safety, student affairs, facilities operations, human resources, and other offices to establish a comprehensive and integrated approach to emergency management. The Director serves as a liaison with local, state, and federal officials in developing policies and procedures, identifying grant opportunities and in responding to an emergency or disaster. This position is designated essential in accordance with DHRM Policy 1.35. |
Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications • Demonstrated ability to oversee and supervise the planning and implementation of an all-hazards emergency preparedness program.

Required Experience: Progressively responsible leadership experience in emergency planning and management, supporting and managing an emergency operation center, policy development, and coordination with large organizations with multiple priorities, including risk assessment, response planning, continuity of operations planning, and development of comprehensive response protocols for all-hazards emergency operations. Demonstrated history of progressive field applications of skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience in emergency management, alongside expertise in fire and rescue operations.
