Department Summary

The Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track coach is charged with developing the institutions Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track program. These sports are going into their 4th year of existence and are still developing. The areas of cross country and mid to long distance will be the emphasis with the possibility of growth to a full track and field program. As such, the Head Coach will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, coaching and leading approximately 25-30 student-athletes who will represent the university and its mission. The head coach will be responsible for maintaining and managing operating, scholarship and fundraising budgets. The head coach will be expected to know and understand NAIA, conference, and institution policies and procedures as it pertains to academic and athletic regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Coaching at the high school and/or AAU and/or intercollegiate and/or professional level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people, preparing them for success in life as well as on the court.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong public service orientation to work well with faculty, staff, students, and the community.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Skilled in budget preparation.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to stay abreast of current and developing trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies).
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree and at least 3 years of experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Preference will be given to a coach who has started or been instrumental in the process of starting a XC and/or Track program at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of and/or contacts within the North Texas area high school and/or AAU XC, track and athletics community.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare a strategic platform for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field programs. Assure that the program is conducted within a framework of the highest standards of ethics, sportsmanship, fair play, and competitive excellence pertaining to the NAIA, conference and institution. 
  • Arrange for entry in XC and Track meets against appropriate competition, travel, meals within the operating budget and fundraise as necessary. 
  • Ensure student athletes are eligible as it pertains to NAIA, conference and institutional policies and ensure their eligibility semester to semester and year to year moving towards graduation. 
  • Develop policies and procedures to assure adherence to the programs operating, scholarship and fundraising budget and that operations are at all times NAIA and conference compliant. 

Work Schedule:

  • 40hrs per week;
  • Night and weekend as needed per game days
