Department Summary

The Center for Human Identification (CHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory located on the campus of The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. With funding from the state of Texas and various Federal Government agencies, CHI supports DNA testing, forensic genetic genealogy, anthropological examinations, CODIS operations, forensic training, and cutting-edge research and development initiatives. CHI also manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database.

Position Overview

Provide high-level administrative support by conducting research, performing clerical functions, and handling information requests, especially as they relate to facilitating communication with CHI's criminal justice agency partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to handle confidential information, utilizing judgement, tact and resourcefulness.
  • Perform collaboratively, with a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adjust to changes, handle multiple tasks and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to keep complex records, assemble and organize large amounts of data, and create reports.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple projects and assignments effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in criminal justice, legal, forensic/lab fields is a plus.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare reports, memos, responses to inquiries and other documents related to ongoing work of CHI.
  • Coordinate the clerical functions for the required DPS/TFSC portals.
  • Maintain and manage incoming subpoenas and testimony requests/schedule for lab analysts.
  • Collect, organize and manage large amounts of information for preservation of evidence, disclosures, discovery, subpoenas and other related matters.
  • Track and review transcripts for discovery.
  • File and retrieve relevant documents, records and reports.
  • Participate in related meetings/conference calls.
  • Assist CHI management with projects.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday; 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
