Department Summary

The Department of Preclinical Research Services at the UNT System College of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, Ranked among the top 50 medical schools for seven consecutive years, the UNTHSC is a 33-acre graduate school located in the city's Cultural District with a local economic impact of $500 million annually. The UNT System College of Pharmacy is the first pharmacy school in Texas located on an academic health science center campus.

The researchers can have a strong interdisciplinary partnership with other departments at the UNTHSC and in the midst of a robust pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and clinical trial industry present in the DFW area. We can make healthcare better through teamwork.

Position Overview

Plan and conduct experiments with laboratory animals and investigations to expand scientific knowledge across various fields. Responsibilities include designing studies, analyzing results, and engaging in clinical research, development, and other related scientific activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree and five (5) years of related research experience developing, maintaining and analyzing matters relevant to research projects; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Administer various substances following proper techniques/instructions
  • Maintain animal records, which includes recording vital signs and clinical observations
  • Utilize controlled substances for anesthesia and/or analgesia
  • Assist in surgical procedures that require proper aseptic technique
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures in microbiology, hematology, and pharmacology
  • Prepare samples for shipment to external sites for analysis
  • Prepare items for tissue collection and processing
  • Help with the routine laboratory maintenance
  • Advanced computing skills and productivity software knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and other online conferencing software
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong communication skills to explain and discuss complex problems to applied researchers verbally and in writing
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

MS degree preferred or BS degree with minimum of five (5) years of relevant research experience.

Job Duties:

  • Ability to work with laboratory animals.
  • Use established animal models for the evaluation of novel therapeutics.
  • Conduct research to develop methodologies, instrumentation, and procedures for medical applications.
  • Analyze data and present findings to scientific and general audiences.
  • Follow strict safety protocols when handling biological and chemical hazardous materials to avoid contamination.
  • Write and publish articles in scientific journals Note.
  • Demonstrates essential skills and maintains up-to-date knowledge in relevant scientific fields.
  • Maintains performance under pressure, adjusts to changing demands, and responds appropriately to new information.
  • Communicates clearly, actively listens, and adjusts communication style for different audiences.
