Position Overview The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Police Lieutenant. This position is responsible for supervisory police work involving the protection and safeguarding of human lives and property, including supervisory oversight of a broad departmentwide operational area: patrol, investigations, administration, support services, parking, traffic, or planning. Duties include assisting with developing and implementing department operational goals, plans, and directives and may include performing some duties similar to subordinates during the course of a scheduled workday. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Plans and directs daily activities, trains, counsels, monitors and evaluates subordinates within assigned component. Monitors employee safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Provides supervision at university events and activities. Supervises, schedules, and monitors employee training and compliance with department and university requirements. Maintains effective working relationships with the University community and external agencies. Communicates department policies and procedures to subordinates within assigned work group. Assists Captain in developing operational goals, plans, and directives. Serves on committees, task forces, and planning groups as assigned. |

Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree and three (3) years of commissioned police officer experience, including supervisory roles, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Must have a Texas peace officer license or ability to obtain within six (6) months. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough working knowledge of Texas Code of Criminal and Civil Procedure. Thorough working knowledge of law enforcement and security operations. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse community. Excellent general management and administrative skills. Knowledge of personnel management, recruitment, training, retention and maintaining a diverse workforce. Ability to plan and supervise work activities of police and security personnel. Ability to support the function and goals of a campus law enforcement agency. Ability to use computer devices and programs and other modern law enforcement technologies and tools. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Ability and demonstrated experience in fostering positive employee and campus community relations |

Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. One year with UNT Dallas Police Department; another higher education police department; or equivalent police agency. Advanced Licensure as a Police Officer from TCOLE. Previous Command Experience Experience with Clery compliance Basic Police Instructor License from TCOLE. Specialized experience, licenses or certifications in investigations, training, accreditation, administration or other applicable areas related to areas of assignment. Exercise good judgment and to utilize tact and courtesy when working with the public under frequently stressful conditions. Able to react quickly and effectively under emergency (high stress) situations. Demonstrate professional demeanor and excellent oral communication skills. Ability to formulate effective solutions to problem situations in accordance with statutes, regulations, and training. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Lateral entry incumbents must be either currently employed as a police officer in Texas. |
