The University of North Texas (UNT) College of Music is America’s largest public-university music program and one of its most respected. The University of North Texas Wind Studies Area, as part of the Division of Conducting & Ensembles of the College of Music, has as its primary mission the preparation of instrumentalists and conductors for professional careers in performance and education. It is our goal to provide a program that will develop well-rounded musicians who are prepared to face the challenges of an increasingly global, rapidly changing, and inevitably interconnected musical world. In addition, we are directed toward maintaining a leadership role locally, nationally, and internationally. The program serves approximately 800 undergraduate and graduate music majors. Performance opportunities include Wind Symphony, Wind Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Winds, Symphonic Winds, University Winds, Brass Band, Green Brigade Marching Band, and Varsity Band. Position Overview

The University of North Texas College of Music is seeking an energetic artist/teacher who will collaborate as part of a team of conductors and educators who have developed one of the nation’s leading wind studies programs. This faculty appointment resides in the Division of Conducting and Ensembles in the UNT College of Music.

Teaching: Conduct the Wind Orchestra. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting and history and repertoire of the wind band, commensurate to the strengths of the successful candidate. Coordinate the graduate related field (minor) in wind conducting. Work in consort with Wind Studies colleagues to recruit, retain, and teach an outstanding enrollment of undergraduate music majors and graduate wind conducting students. Serve on graduate committees and doctoral projects/documents. Serve as co-coordinator of the Conductors Collegium, the annual summer conducting workshop. Other teaching duties as assigned.

Research/creative activities: Establish/maintain a national/international profile as a conductor. Other appropriate creative activity includes seminars, workshops, clinics, adjudication, publications such as peer-reviewed books, articles, and recordings, as well as pedagogical research.

Service: Participate fully in academic and professional activities, including service assignments, across the campus and the profession.

Other: Other duties as assigned.

The candidate will be expected to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with colleagues at UNT and with the profession at-large.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in music required. Demonstrated success teaching at the college/university level with a proven record of attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding students.

Preferred Qualifications

An established record of professional conducting experience, including as a clinician, pedagogue, and creative artist. Artist-level conductor of significant repertoire. Performance expertise across the wind band repertoire including and beyond the canon. Experience and enthusiasm for commissioning/premiering/recording new works for the wind band medium.
