The Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction (FPDC) team is the backbone of campus transformation, serving the mission and values of UNT while stewarding a unique and impactful sense of place. Position Overview

The Construction Inspector has oversite of assigned construction projects, site inspections and observation for new construction projects and renovations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*Reviewing inspections for accuracy, compliance and potential issues in the field.
*Ability to climb ladders, access roofs, crawl spaces of buildings.
*Work in extreme weather conditions (Heat, cold, rain, snow and wind).
*Applicant must have excellent communication skills for conveying information to Campus, Building Representatives, Vendors, Contractors, Facilities Shop Supervision and Coworkers. *Appropriate UNT supplied PPEs must be worn during construction site visits and inspections.
*Some evening or weekend work might be required to meet schedules deadlines.
*Position must be willing to work during Emergency situations if needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of related experience in the construction industry; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

*Experience managing medium to large construction projects.
*Experience working in construction for a public education institution and/or commercial setting.
*Knowledge of building codes, construction documents and construction safety standards. *Proficiency in specific software may be required.
*Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

*A general working knowledge of commercial construction with an emphasis on structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties

  • Inspection: Conducts inspection of contractors work for quality and conformance to code and UDCS. Monitors/observes the work, storage, and installation of materials and acts as liaison between client and contractor. Schedules special trade inspections (such as plumbing electrical) with Facilities shops as needed 
  • Inspection reports: Ensures all inspection reports are properly documented and accurately filed for reference including photo documentation. 
  • Site coordination works with contractor and campus to ensure proper site safety coordination of site logistics. Coordinates with GIS to ensure data gathering of buried utilities, facilities, etc. 
  • Field issues work with contractor, project manager and others as necessary to find solutions to problems discovered in the field 
  • Technical Advisor Works as a technical advisor to the project managers on design, constructability, building systems and other areas of expertise 
  • Promotes Facilities core values of Service, Integrity, and Excellence by conducting oneself in a manner that is respectful, honest, ethical, and customer focused. 
  • Committed to maintaining a safe and secure work environment.

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm; Friday 7:30 am - 2:30 pm
