Department Summary

The Department of Medical Education at TCOM is seeking a teaching Assistant Professor, non-tenured, Director of the Faculty Development Center. This position is responsible for managing and nurturing a comprehensive faculty development enterprise at UNT Health. The Director provides leadership, coordination, planning, and delivery of professional development opportunities for faculty at all ranks. In addition to overseeing the educational and programmatic mission of the center, this role manages the Educational Coordinator position and oversees the admissions and evaluation of enrollees in faculty development programming.

Position Overview

This position provides leadership for the TCOM Faculty Development Center, oversees development and delivery of FDC educational programming, and serves as a liaison representing FDC to outside institutions, state agencies, other healthcare organizations, and TCOM affiliated and statewide graduate medical education programs. This position reports to the Chair of Medical Education and Health Systems Science.

Job Duties

• Provide leadership for the TCOM Faculty Development Center, oversee development and delivery of and personally deliver instruction in FDC educational programming.
• Recruit and enroll participants in FDC educational programming, including but not limited to the Graduate Certificate in Academic Medicine. Courses Taught: AMED 5000, 5100, 5200, 5300, 5400, 5600, 5700.
• Stimulate educational innovation and learning research across the institution and academic affiliates, championing instructional creativity and advocating for teaching excellence.
• Promote awareness of and opportunities for faculty to adopt educationally innovative practices in both face-to-face and online instructional settings.
• Identify and disseminate the latest learning research and evidence-based strategies for classroom and clinical teaching implementation.
• Assess the effectiveness of workshops and events focused on educational innovation and creativity, and recommend areas for improvement.
• Advocate for teaching excellence by promoting the work of UNT Health and academic affiliate faculty and best practices at local, regional, and national levels. 
• Oversee the implementation of professional development events and workshops, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and educational best practices.
• Support instructional creativity by helping plan, design, and implement events and workshops highlighting emerging learning technologies.
• Facilitate opportunities for faculty to apply current research in instructional methods and learning science within their teaching contexts.
• Evaluate faculty development offerings systematically and use data-driven insights to inform program planning and resource allocation.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaborations across departments and institutions to foster a community of practice centered on teaching and learning excellence.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the Faculty Development Center, including budget oversight, strategic planning, and operational coordination.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Educational Coordinator(s) and other center staff, supporting their professional growth and performance.
• Oversee the admissions and evaluation processes for fellows enrolled in faculty development programs, ensuring program integrity and quality.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to expand the center's reach and impact.
• Maintain current knowledge of trends in faculty development, health professions education, and academic medicine to ensure programming remains relevant and forward-looking. 
• Collaborate with departmental and institutional leadership to identify faculty development needs and align center programming with strategic goals.
• Represent the Faculty Development Center on institutional committees, task forces, and working groups related to education, faculty affairs, and accreditation.
• Promote the successes of the faculty community and the center by highlighting contributions through scholarly dissemination and institutional reporting.
• Demonstrate and model the highest standards of professional conduct, inclusivity, and commitment to faculty well-being and career development.
• Support implementation and continuous improvement of institutional learning management systems and educational technology platforms used in faculty programming.
• Design and execute assessment frameworks to evaluate the impact of faculty development initiatives on teaching quality, learner outcomes, and institutional culture.
• Compile and report assessment data to institutional leadership and relevant accreditation bodies as required.
• Use evaluation outcomes to iteratively refine center programming, staffing, and resource deployment.
• Benchmark center activities against peer institutions and national standards in faculty development and health professions education.
• Perform strategic planning and identification of new initiatives to advance the mission of the Faculty Development Center.
