Position Overview

The University of North Texas Division of University Advancement seeks an innovative, skilled, and storytelling-driven creative to serve as Senior Visual Communications Strategist—a hybrid designer, editor, and brand ambassador responsible for shaping the look, feel, and emotional impact of Advancement’s most important campaigns.

This is more than a production role. The Senior Strategist is a key voice in UNT’s creative strategy—bringing life, meaning, and motion to our philanthropic priorities through visual design and multimedia content. From donor proposals to impact videos, this role helps translate strategy into connection through powerful, on-brand visual storytelling.

Reporting to the Creative Director and working as part of the Advancement Communications team, the Senior Strategist collaborates closely with writers, project leads, and communications directors to ensure every piece—whether a social graphic or event video—looks incredible, sounds aligned, and feels like UNT. You’ll be surrounded by collaborators who care deeply about the work and supported by a structure that values both speed and excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of professional related experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Creative Leadership: High-level design instincts across media; ability to take initiative and own the visual side of a project from concept through completion.
* Multimedia Fluency: Proficiency in design, video editing, and light animation; confident creating content that moves and connects.
* Storytelling Alignment: Understands how visuals support narrative—and collaborates well with writers and strategists to elevate message through image.
* Agility Under Pressure: Organized, focused, and creative in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
* Brand Stewardship: Understands the value of consistency, tone, and visual cohesion across a university brand.
* Constructive Collaboration: Team-minded, responsive to feedback, and committed to improving the final product.
* Quality Control: Detail-oriented and committed to clean, accessible, polished work—every time.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in higher education, advancement, or nonprofit communications.
* Familiarity with accessibility standards and design practices.
* Understanding of philanthropic storytelling and donor communications.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties

  • Design, Video, and Multimedia Storytelling
    * Design and produce high-quality creative assets across formats—print, digital, and video—to support donor relations, alumni engagement, major gift proposals, campaigns, and university events.
    * Produce, edit, and deliver short-form video content for use in email campaigns, social media, email, and events.
    * Incorporate motion design or animation when appropriate to enhance emotional and visual impact.
    * Ensure all content meets accessibility guidelines, production specs, and brand requirements.
    * Serve as a steward of UNT’s philanthropic visual identity, ensuring consistency across platforms and reinforcing brand recognition through high-quality design.
    * Push creative boundaries while honoring the spirit, tone, and look of the UNT brand.
    * Manage multiple design and multimedia projects simultaneously, adapting quickly to changing needs while maintaining quality, timeliness, and attention to detail.
    * Balance quick-turn requests with longer-form projects and content series, working with the Creative Director to allocate time and resources effectively.
    * Maintain organized design files, templates, and shared assets for team use and collaboration. 
  • Creative Collaboration and Strategy
    * Translate briefs and creative direction into compelling, mission-aligned visual assets that elevate the UNT philanthropic brand.
    * Collaborate with writers and project owners to concept and execute visuals that enhance and strengthen messaging.
    * Actively contribute to creative ideation, brainstorming, and campaign development, bringing both visual instinct and strategic insight to the table.
    * Partner with the Creative Director to evolve templates, refine guidelines, and introduce new design solutions that improve storytelling.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm; Typical 40-hour work week with possible flex-time schedule and hybrid work opportunities.
