Department Summary

This position works under the supervision of the MPAC Director and MPAC Audio Technical Director as a general stage technician for performances in the Murchison Performing Arts Center to support both UNT College of Music concerts as well as external rental client events.

Position Overview

This position works under the supervision of the MPAC Director and MPAC Audio Technical Director as a general stage technician for performances in the Murchison Performing Arts Center to support both UNT College of Music concerts as well as external rental client events.

Minimum Qualifications

2-3 years experience with general theater production including audio, lighting, scenic and props. Associates degree or higher in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to learn quickly and retain system information once taught. Critical listening abilities for audio and good vision for lighting are needed. Must be able to read production reports and execute tasks as assigned in reports. Must have a friendly demeanor in dealing with all internal and external clients. Must have knowledge of general stage terminology and stage directions. This is a hands on position, so some lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, climbing of stairs and ladders should be expected in every shift.

Job Duties

  • Includes reading pre-event reports and setting stages to match charts. 
  • Moving equipment on/off stage such as microphones, chairs, stands, platforms, choir risers, pianos, etc. 
  • Assisting in setup of audio and lighting as well as tables and chairs for lobby receptions, meeting, etc. 
  • Running audio or assisting with audio for events with multiple microphones such as concerts or meetings. 

Physical Requirements

Communicating with others to exchange information.

Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.

Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.

Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards

Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.

Noisy environments.

Work Schedule

Work will be intermittent, year-round, scheduled at least 2 - 4 weeks in advance. Part-time, no more than 15 hours per week. Several weeks a year will have no hours when UNT is closed for Winter, Spring, Fall breaks, as well as several weeks i
