The Assistant Director of Counseling Services will assist the Executive Director of Counseling Services by providing daily operational and clinical oversight of the Office of Counseling Services. The Assistant Director will also assist in implementing a thorough and rigorous clinical training and supervision program that advances the clinical skills of clinicians of all stages of development to ensure that all staff are adequately trained.

Essential duties:

  • Provide direct supervision of all Counseling Services employees and clinical staff.
  • Develop and implement training materials and programs for Counseling Services staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement psychoeducational outreach programs to specifically address identified needs on campus as well as focus on prevention and early intervention efforts.
  • Participate on university committees that address or impact student mental health and/or wellness.
  • Manage a small clinical caseload as necessary.
  • Establish and manage the clinical on-call schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling required
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Must be approved by the appropriate Board to provide clinical supervision to practicum students, interns, and post-graduate residents
  • At least two years of post-graduate experience in a college counseling setting and previous experience of clinical and administrative supervision is highly preferred
