The Head Coach will be responsible for all phases of the baseball program including recruitment of prospective student-athletes, game preparation and strategy, supervision of assistant coaches, and fiscal management. This position will also be responsible for scheduling and attending public relations events, camps, clinics, and other meetings with administration/alumni.
Essential duties:
- Oversee recruitment and retention of student-athletes who are mission fit, academically solid, and athletically skilled.
- Adhere to, support, and follow the academic standards and requirements of the university regarding the recruitment and eligibility of prospective and current student-athletes.
- Assist baseball student-athletes in obtaining spiritual growth while tracking their academic progress by providing appropriate advice and assistance to help ensure the success their spiritual development and completed stated program of study.
- Report any known or suspected violations of the NCCAA, NCAA, and/or university rules by the head coach, assistant coaches, student-athletes, staff, etc. promptly to the Director of Athletics.
- Organize and supervise all practices, games, and other workout sessions for the baseball team through the effective instruction and coaching of student-athletes.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate baseball competitions while adhering to the rules and standards established by NCCAA and NCAA.
- Promote community service projects for the baseball team to complete per the mission of the NCCAA, NCAA, Regent Athletic Department, and Regent University.
- Comply with the constitution, bylaws, and interpretations of the NCCAA, NCAA, and university rules/regulations relating to the conduct and administration of the program.
- Supervise assistant coaches and their compliance to the rules and regulations of the NCCAA, NCAA, and University.
- Establish and maintain a frequent and transparent system of communication with the Director of Athletics, as well as the EVP for Student Life, faculty, staff, and student body as needed.
- Produce reports and paperwork for the local, regional, and national awards.
- Manage distribution, collection, inventory, and storage of team uniforms and equipment.
- Assist Director of Athletics in the coordination and execution of travel arrangements/transportation/driving, statistics, game schedule, meals, referees/officials, equipment, facilities, etc. for all team contests.
- Assist Director of Athletics in securing suitable practice facilities within approved budget.
- Assist Director of Athletics in managing all aspects of the sport budget.
- Notify in writing (and in person when appropriate) while seeking prior approval from the Director of Athletics of all sport-related decisions, changes, and concerns regarding scheduling, facilities, budget, university and athletic department business, NCCAA/NCAA rules/standards violations, student-athlete, or coach concerns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Sports administration or a significant higher education experience in a related field preferred
- Two to three years of successful high school, college, or private baseball coaching experience is required
- Flexibility in personal schedule to participate in required Athletic Department weekly staff meetings, functions, and other duties as directed by the Director of Athletics
- Must have demonstrated strategic planning skills and an ability to assess the team’s competitive strengths and vulnerabilities to enhance the team’s performance
- Demonstrated ability to hold student-athletes accountable while supporting the standards of the department and university
