The IT Project Manager (PM) assumes a pivotal role in overseeing the successful delivery of Information Technology investments. Collaborating closely with departmental and university leadership, the Project Manager ensures alignment with university strategic plans, continuous improvement efforts, and Information Technology project goals. Serving as the primary link between the university and IT, the Project Manager facilitates effective communication and coordination throughout the lifecycle of IT projects.

Essential duties:

  • Collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders to define project scope and objectives, ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans detailing tasks, timelines, and milestones to monitor and track progress effectively.
  • Implement strategies to manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs, utilizing appropriate verification techniques.
  • Employ suitable project management tools and techniques to measure performance and project outcomes, analyzing the successful completion of both short and long-term goals.
  • Devise and execute project communication plans, providing regular status updates to relevant staff and stakeholders.
  • Maintain Information Technology vendor and customer relationships and manage engagement with stakeholders, fostering open lines of communication.
  • Conduct risk management activities to identify and mitigate potential risks to project delivery.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, working closely with university partners to define project objectives and requirements for successful IT investment outcomes.
  • Align project activities with budgetary objectives and recommend adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field and 5+ years technical project management experience. Experience in related work may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired
  • Strong knowledge of IT products, project management methodologies, tools, trends and strategies pertaining to the academic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects and staff
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools
  • Previous experience in change management and stakeholder engagement

Candidates must have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, concise project documentation
  • Interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across divisions, technical teams, managed services partners, and vendors
