About the role
This is a unique opportunity to join TAFE NSW at the Taree campus as a Technical Officer (Equine) in a temporary role through to 25 June 2027, working 20 hours per week across Monday to Friday. In this highly practical, hands-on position, you will support the delivery of training by preparing resources, assisting teaching staff during practical sessions, and maintaining the learning environment to a high standard. Working on a functioning farm, you will collaborate closely with agriculture and equine staff to ensure facilities, equipment and resources are prepared, maintained and aligned with the needs of a diverse student cohort.
The role is integral to the safe and effective operation of the Taree campus, with a strong focus on animal welfare and duty of care for the campus’ horses. You will contribute to daily farm maintenance, support feeding and care routines, and assist in ensuring compliance with animal welfare legislation and industry standards. This position plays a critical role in risk management, incident prevention and maintaining continuity of skilled oversight, ensuring high standards of animal health, safety and student learning are always upheld.
About you
You are someone who thrives in a hands-on, outdoor environment and enjoys the variety that comes with working on a busy, operational farm supporting a wide range of students and learning activities. You bring practical experience and a collaborative approach, working effectively with teaching and technical teams to support learning delivery. Your day will involve manual duties, farm and facility maintenance, assisting with the preparation of teaching aids, and contributing to a safe and engaging learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Ideally, you will hold a qualification in equine-related studies and have demonstrated knowledge of equine health, behaviour and husbandry. You understand the importance of animal welfare, compliance and accurate record-keeping, and can confidently identify and respond to risks within a farm environment. With strong organisational skills and attention to detail, you contribute to efficient operations, support safe horse handling practices, and help maintain the reputation and high standards of TAFE NSW’s equine training programs.
