About the Centres of Excellence (CoE)

The TAFE NSW Centres of Excellence bring together the Construction Centre of Excellence, the Manufacturing Centres of Excellence, and the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) Digital, a National Centre of Excellence, to support industry-led innovation, workforce development and skills excellence across priority sectors.

Through partnerships with industry, government, training providers and higher education institutions, the Centres develop and deliver industry-aligned education, applied research, and innovative workforce solutions that respond to current and emerging skills needs. Leveraging contemporary learning environments, advanced technologies and strong stakeholder networks, the Centres help build the capabilities required for the jobs of today and the future.

About the role

Centres of Excellence are transforming vocational education by delivering innovative, industry-aligned training that prepares students for the jobs of tomorrow. We are seeking passionate and experienced educators to join our team as Casual Teachers across a range of specialist areas.

As a Casual Teacher, you will design and deliver engaging learning experiences that enable students to achieve their goals. You will prepare and deliver online lessons, assess student progress, and maintain compliance with organisational standards. You’ll also collaborate with industry and community stakeholders to ensure training remains relevant and responsive to emerging needs.  Please note, casual teaching hours are ad-hoc and there is no guarantee of regular or ongoing work.

We are recruiting for casual teachers in the following areas:

  • Building/Construction Business Owners
  • Leadership & Management in Building and Construction
  • Technical Compliance Skills — Wet Area Construction, Passive Fire Systems, Electrical Safety for Trades
  • Innovative & Modern Building Practices — Modern Methods of Construction (Modular, Volumetric, Panel Systems), Lean Construction
  • AI & Digital Skills in Construction
  • Contracts, Estimating, WHS and Sustainability in Construction

About You 

You are an experienced professional with strong subject knowledge and vocational qualifications in a above areas, complemented by at least three years of recent industry experience. Your ability to communicate effectively across diverse educational and industry settings, combined with excellent organisational skills, ensures you can create a positive and productive learning environment. You thrive in collaborative settings, demonstrate a strong customer service ethos, and possess problem-solving skills that support change and innovation.

To be successful in the role you will:

  1. Hold a minimum Certificate IV in a relevant qualification for the discipline you are applying for.
  2. Have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience in industry relevant to your qualifications, gained no longer than five years previously.
  3. Be prepared to continue to develop their Vocational Education and Training (VET) knowledge and skills as well as their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.
  4. High level written and oral communication skills in English and proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or community environments.
  5. Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment and demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment.
  7. Proven strengths in problem solving and change management.
