About the role
The Permit to Work (PTW) Supervisor is a part of the Processing Department who leads and guides the permit to work team to ensure the energy control & isolations and permits to work are completed to a standard that ensures that safety, environmental, and operational risks are maintained at an impeccable standard for those relying upon them to safely complete their work.
Key / Major Accountabilities
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to a team of Permit Issuers in their role to ensure the PTW system is being followed, eliminating exposure to risks while workers are carrying out work.
- Identify and carry out safe and effective isolations in the field to ensure the safety of all personnel who are required to perform work on the equipment. Confirm IRS documents are correct and relevant to the job to be performed. Create new IRS documents as required.
- Verify that all necessary safety procedures and controls are in place before issuing any permit. This includes confirming of risk assessments, JSEAs, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Take part in shutdown planning meetings, prepare IRS documents in line with shutdown plan and work lists, ensuring they are prepared for issue in line with the shutdown schedule.
- Perform isolations as per the shutdown schedule, prepare permit control boards and issue permits to those performing the work. Deisolate and return the plant to operating condition as jobs are completed on equipment items.
- Work closely with supervisors and safety personnel to ensure that all isolation safety precautions are understood and implemented. Provide clear guidance to workers regarding the requirements outlined in the permit, emphasising safety and emergency procedures. Notify relevant stakeholders of any changes to work conditions or permits and ensure that any new permits or revised permits are issued promptly.
- Before issuing a permit, review permit receiver’s JSEA and other related documents and ensure the documents are in line with the task. Ensure compliance with established isolation and permit practices, ensuring that all personnel involved in the work are adhering to safety regulations.
- Maintain filing system where all completed and returned permits are scanned into the correct folders on the K92 Processing storage. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all issued permits, including work details, personnel involved, safety precautions, and any changes made during the work process. Report any violations of safety protocols or non-compliance with issued permits to relevant supervisors or management. Ensure that records are complete and readily available for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Organise and document weekly safety toolbox meetings.
- Carry out other relative duties as directed by the Coordinator Processing
- Utilising available resources, maintain equipment to a safe and efficient standard in accordance with government regulations and company policy.

About You
To be considered for this role, you will have some or all the following.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical diploma or higher in engineering, such as Processing, Mechanical or Electrical, or a related field is preferred
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, First Aid, or a relevant PTW certification is highly recommended.
- Familiarity with HSE Systems: Experience with Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001, etc.).

At least 3 years of PTW experience working in minerals Processing, Oil & Gas, construction, or maintenance environments, with a specific focus on safety management.

Have worked in the mineral processing or oil and gas industry in a similar role for at least 5 years.

Proactive and able to maintain continuous improvement of the PTW system.

Proven ability to lead a team of permit issuers

Ability to maintain the high-level standards required by a PTW team and infrastructure, equipment and tooling.

Exceptional planning and execution skills

Clear understanding of P&ID and PFD drawings

Demonstrated ability to lead a team in Energy control and isolation systems

Demonstrated ability to lead a team to maintain PTW activities including for high-risk tasks.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Safety, environmental systems, procedures and standards

Demonstrated ability to work with planning and scheduling teams, for preparing isolations and permits for plant shutdowns

Experience with gas testing equipment control, care, servicing and testing.
