About the role
Joining our Operational Services maintenance team, this role is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of mine power supply and distribution system for all electrical equipment on the mine and on our exploration sites in Kainantu. In addition, this position will also play an important role in the training of trades assistants.
Key Accountabilities
- Inspect, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using various hand and power tools on mobile fleet.
- Diagnose electrical defects or hazards on systems, appliances and machinery and identify adjustment and repair timely.
- Ensure that alarms and emergency electrical systems on mobile fleet are always operational.
- Conduct regular electrical tests and tagging on mobile fleet equipment, appliances, and machines.
- Inspect, test and qualified to apply and remove ‘out-of-service’ or ‘not-to-be operated’ tags to electrical equipment, appliances, and mobile machines.
- Prepare sketches and plan layout to determine the location of electrical wiring and equipment and to always ensure safety compliance.
- Respond to routine and emergency calls for repair and service within the underground mine site area, and on field, or where job is required.
- Work long and odd hours and often be on call in emergency situations and extreme conditions.
- Attend to physically demanding tasks involving digging ditches and moving and lifting heavy objects.
- Perform general housekeeping within and around work area.
- Ensure and maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with mine safety regulations for all tasks performed.
- Maintain safety work standards in accordance with government regulations and company policy.
- Perform all roles and responsibilities that support and reflect the company’s mission and core values.
- Ensure that the sections daily work plans are executed as directed.
- Competent in lifting and safe operation of workshop equipment.
- Reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
- Diagnose problems in all equipment with regular reference to equipment manuals.
- Prepare and plan of welding jobs for site services.
- Carry out equipment alignments with Dial Indicators.
- Conduct accurate dimensional checks of crusher bushes, shafts or bearing clearances and recording data.
- Attend to isolations required for simple tasks to major shutdowns.
- Conduct general housekeeping at work area.
- Identify and report safety hazards.
- Maintain safety work standards in accordance with government regulations and company policy.
About You
To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have a NATTB Trade Certificate as well a current electrical license. You will also need to demonstrate experience in the installation and maintenance of power distribution systems, transformers, motor control centres and starters. In addition to this, you will have some or all the following.
- Three (3) years’ experience working in a mining environment.
- Grades 10 or 12 certificate
- Must be a NATTB Level 3 Electrical Mechanic Tradesman with PNG Power EW10 certification.
- Maintain current electrician’s license to meet government regulations.
- Wide experience in the installation and maintenance of underground power distribution systems, transformer installations, motor control centers, LVHV transfers, and starters; and in the maintenance of underground equipment – electric motors, compressor stations and other electrical equipment
